Cedar Park in The Bronx was the venue for what many consider to be the first Hip Hop party ever back in 1973. Hosted by DJ Kool Herc, it began at his 1520 Sedgwick apartment building before expanding into the park to accommodate the growing crowds.

Cedar Park is fairly well known now (thanks in part to the Sedgwick & Cedar clothing line) but this lyric from 1986 was the first time it was acknowledged on wax.

New York’s Department of Parks and Recreation made a short film about Cedar Park and its history which features Kool Herc.
