Hit the city to see one of my school mates
Making six figures but she still got a roommate
Just to have a downtown apartment and some outfits

A mini story about how he visited a friend of his, probably living somewhere like New York City where rent is really high. She has a high-paying salary but still needs a roommate to help pay the rent so that she can live the lifestyle she wants to live. This is one of the reasons why Phonte decides to stay in the south.
The usage of “Shit” in a stretched-out southern fashion is a possible reference to the character Clay Davis in The Wire. The show is based in a nearby southern city, Baltimore, and Davis is good ol' boy politician from those parts who “never left the south.”
