IPO Hov, no need for reverse merger
from Jay-Z – "Grammy Family" Freestyle Lyrics on Rap Genius
An IPO, or initial public offering, is when a company (called the issuer) issues common stock or shares to the public for the first time. It is done as a way for companies to raise money. Jay is saying that he doesn’t need the help, and has that kind of money on his own
A reverse merger is exactly the opposite, and is sometimes called a “reverse IPO”. It is the acquisition of a public company by a private company to bypass the lengthy and complex process of going public. It’s no accident that a reverse merger is more typically called a reverse takeover.
Jay seems to be saying that he is ready to “go public” as a titan of industry on his own — no need to disguise his intentions or try to play it low-key.
Interestingly, Jay’s business partner-turned-enemy Dame Dash has a cousin (Darien Dash) who was the first African-American to own a company to go through a reverse merger in 2000
