So fly with no fear of the flight
So if y'all hear my plight
And if you think you can make it this far without a fight
Couple mistakes here and there
Not always right, but I'm always real
That's how I sleep at night

from Jay Z – Sweet Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

Hov ends verse 3 to “Sweet” with the same theme he speaks to at the end of verse 2.

And the theme is this: we all make mistakes but staying true to yourself and owning these failures is the only to move on from them.

Hov, as successful as he is, admits that he has made mistakes. We all do. But he also stresses that through the example of his life — a drug dealer from the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn that now shares the company of billionaires — anything may be possible. “So fly with no fear of the flight,” he says. The joy is in the struggle. Have no fear.

He understands, however, that you can’t go anywhere or move on without a few conflicts (“without a fight”) and regrets (“couple mistakes here and there”) along the way.

Again, this is a common theme throughout his work as an artist. In Regrets, the last song on Hov’s first album, Reasonable Doubt, he says something similar in the chorus:

“This is the number one rule for you set
In order to survive got to learn to live with regrets
On the rise to the top many drop, don’t forget
In order to survive got to learn to live with regrets”
