Freedom of self expression is often encouraged in rap. Here Cole explains his independence and his growth contrary to the previous line about what his mom asked him. He’s a grown man and he can say whatever he wants. He’s educated and definitely can speak with certainty about the things he chooses to speak on (rap, the rap game, beats, and business), but he opts not to because his slang is the way he talks. He shouldn’t have to change the way he is to become great. In fact, him doing what he wants and being true to himself has gotten him to this position. .
