Here hungry for him means hungry or eager for a record deal, money or sometimes literally for food. He is suggesting that he wants it so bad that even the starving children of Africa cannot match his hunger. A slightly tasteless line that is definitely black humor (no pun intended).
See below for an image of one of these African kids, the image itself won awards but the photographer killed himself years later as he had sat and waited next to the dying child for a long time in an effort to get the best shot of the vulture lurking and he never once attempted to help the suffering child. So eventually the guilt got to him. You learn something new everyday.
