For what shall it prosper the rapper with creative control
To sign a deal with the devil and lose his soul
He’s been offered chances to sell his soul, as in, signing a record deal. He’s refused them all and he stays real to himself and his fans.
The “devil” is a reference to the many record companies that offered Tech a record deal. The problem is that when you sign these record deals the company pretty much owns you and decides which songs you can and cannot release as well as the subject matter. A lot of times the songs get dumbed down and less “raw”. If Tech signed a deal the company would prevent him from criticizing and analyzing everything, they would instead try to make him appeal to the mass media to try to make a profit.
He sells himself to record companies. Ironically the rapper becomes the puppet because of his creativity therefore gets controlled by the major record companies.
