Motherfuckers say that I'm foolish I only talk about jewels
Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?
How can critics say Jay-Z only raps about jewels? Clearly they are only superficially listening to his body of work — say, the hooks of hits like “Big Pimpin'” and “Money, Cash, Hoes” — and ignoring the many stories he tells about ghetto life in his lyrics
In Jay’s book Decoded he goes on to say:
This is directed at critics who only listen to songs that fulfill their preconceived notions-the ‘bling bling’ in the background summarizes their usual complaint about my music
