I watched Crash and realize that we all survivors
No religion or race could ever describe us

from Common – Forever Begins Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

A reference to the 2004 movie Crash, written and directed by Paul Haggis. It’s about racial and social tensions. In an interview, Haggis describes how he came up with the idea:

You and I, driving down the streets, I yell at you, you flip me the finger, you go right, I go left. What happens to you? Do you go home and do the emotions that the incident has caused you to carry cause you to have a tiff with your wife? Or do you stop two or three blocks later and save someone’s life?

Common’s message is along the same lines. He sees how we are all connected and believes that bond should be a stronger force than any of the dividing forces stemming from our differences.
