I missed the part when it stopped bein 'bout Imus
What do my lyrics got to do with this shit!
Why are people giving Jay-Z a hard time for his lyrics?? Why don’t they focus on Don Imus, the shock jock radio host who started a controversy when he referred to the Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hoes”?
Also, peep the “I miss” / “Imus” homophone! (nice)
When the Don Imus “nappy-headed hoes” controversy happened, people were quick to lay the blame at the foot of hip-hop, suggesting it had popularised the term “hoes” in the first place and made it somehow acceptable in the vernacular of people like Imus. As a famous and prominent figure in hip-hop Jay’s music has often been made the scapegoat in controversies about some of rap’s less proud lyrical moments, even being targeted by Oprah. Jay’s offended that people are missing the point — the controversy wasn’t about the word “hoes”, it was about the use of a racial epithet by a white man, and he is sick of hip-hop generally, and his lyrics specifically, being dragged into the debate
