Inter century anthems based off inner city tantrums
Based off the way we was branded
Kanye drops some serious socio-political science here. These two lines are a more concise and rhythmic way of saying,
The stereotypes that have long been associated with Black people are not only due to a self-fulfilling prophecy within the Black community (This is how we are taught to act), but because these stereotypes were based on what (white) people thought we were"
Ye also mentions the fact that rap and hip-hop music often create songs (anthems) where they display their pride in being violent, doing drugs, being involved with crime and gangs.
These songs are based off of tantrums or violent and uncontrolled outbursts like gang violence. Sometimes “the way we was branded” (nod to consumerism) causes these tantrums — both self-fulfilling prophecies and an experience of racism causing a black youth to violently react.
