The rap climate today wants people to describe their cities to be hella poppin. Instead of talking about all the troubles that they go through people from his city want him to write more like mainstream music, which is mainly just showing off how rich you are. People might feel that he’s making the city look bad with all the dark songs he writes.
He doesn’t deny that he writes about his city’s negatives, but states that if they paid attention they’d realize he’s also praising his city is his lyrics and also garnering hope for improvement really putting it on the map, by addressing these issues.
Also he points out the stereotype that rap is about drugs and violence, and how just because he is a rapper people from his city think he shows off bad ideals, when in reality, his music is intended to give hope to other people that started out as poor as he himself was as a child.
