You totally disconnected with reality
Don't believe in dreams
Since when did black men become kings"
Hov fantastically ties up the verse here. The shrink, as she’s done throughout the verse, expresses doubt over Jay’s grasp of reality. She represents the stereotype of society that says black men can’t be successful. But in reality, they can be. Hov points to himself, Martin Luther King Jr., and possibly Barack Obama as evidence. The success of black people isn’t a dream anymore.
Also, he is referring back to Jay Electronica’s original reference to the “return of the black kings.”
It’s also fascinating to note that
“you totally disconnected with reality"
doesn’t rhyme with anything else in the whole verse really — as if that bar stands outside the whole song (and it’s also disconnected with the rest of the verse that it’s in).
