You could be the king but watch the queen conquer
In chess, the Queen is the most powerful piece on the board, as it can do whatever the fuck it wants, whenever the fuck it wants. The King is more important to the game, as you need it to win, but it is pretty useless compared to the queen. Nicki claims to be the queen of the Chess game of rap.
Kanye and Jay are arguably the current kings of hip-hop, and many more claim to be the “King.”
Notice the three verbs used in this bar: be and watch are passive verbs. It’s what the King (whoever he may be) does. He is the title of King and watches things happen. The Queen, however, is the only one to take action: she conquers. For Nicki, her behavior and success in the rap game matter more than claiming a title.
“Behind every great man, there is a greater woman that was behind that man.” It wouldn’t be hard to how she wouldn’t dominate the chess board with that monstrous backside of hers. Hail to the queen!
