We've got our own studio, the Son of the G
G-Son — Beastie Boys' former studio-office-basketball court-skate park in Atwater Village, a neighborhood in NE Los Angeles.
What was to become the “G-Son” studio was this old ballroom, and next to it was a plumbing shop. It was called Gilson’s, but the “I” and “L” had fallen off the sign, so the [owners] just put a little hyphen there and made it “G-Son.” The Beasties were getting busy trying to make the record, so I kind of rushed the making of the control room. We were building and recording at the same time. —Money Mark, in Alan Light’s “The Story of Yo: The Oral History of the Beastie Boys” for the September 4 1998 issue of SPIN
