Uh, back like lateral passin'
A lateral pass is when you pass the ball backwards in football. Earl is BACK from his extended leave in Samoa, just like lateral passes are performed BACKwards.
The most famous example of a backwards lateral is when California beat Stanford in 1982, using multiple laterals. This is now referred to solely as The Play, alluding to its extreme significance.
If you listen to the track, he’s referring to the line itself. He gets off the beat in the preceding few lines and takes a pause just before this one to get back on the beat. It’s the lyrical equivalent to a back lateral pass. He could also just as easily be referring to handing it off to passing it off to Tyler, who opened the track.
