And assume I'm the real one with lyrics like I'm Cyrano
A reference to the (big-nosed) character Cyrano in “Cyrano de Bergerac,”, written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand.
Cyrano writes love poetry about Roxane. He befriends a man named Christian who’s also in love with Roxane. Feeling that he has no shot with Roxane on account of the nose, he gives Christian the love poems to pass off as his own.
The play was later used as the basis for the film “Roxanne”(1987), starring Steve Martin.
So Kweli’s saying that when people hear another guy flow well, they’ll think that dude stole his lyrics from Kweli!
