Stronger than Teflon
Teflon is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene manufactured by the DuPont Corporation. Although Tip implies that it is known for its strength, it is actually a compound noted for its absence of friction and its hydrophobia, making it an ideal coating for cookware.
Prominent figures are often described as Teflon when nothing seems to “stick” to them, meaning that criticism bounces off of them. John Gotti was known as the “Teflon Don” because of the government’s difficulty making charges “stick”. Tip may be thinking of this nickname and confusing the idea, attributing Gotti’s resilience to strength rather than slipperiness.
