The worker is stuck in a meaningless war just so consumers can have comforts and conveniences and indulge in middle class existence, watching tv and scamming on girls.
This passage can also be read as being literally about war—soldiers fight to protect our “freedoms”—but really our freedoms are just sitting around and being lazy pieces of shit.
