Jeru is addressing the theatrical nature of then-modern hip-hop. Instead of “keeping it real,” too many rappers were fronting like they’re actors in a movie. Some had taken a “horror-core” approach, or acted as crazy as they possibly could — Psycho. Many more were fronting like Italian gangsters (Goodfellas).
