Katrina, FEMA trailers, human body sandbags
Lupe references the American government’s and FEMA’s slow response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief effort, with some thinking the slow response was race related. It was almost as if the dead bodies were stopping the floods better than the government.
Side note: FEMA trailers that were condemned by the U.S. government because of formaldehyde and removed from New Orleans have ended up on the Pine Ridge reservation. These trailers were not donated, they were sold. Exploitative capitalism’s twist on the smallpox blanket?
