Post Obama and post Ye
CG is rapping in an era post-Obama, where a black man can be president and successful. And post Kan(ye) where the current age of rap passes down from rap stars to an era of CG. Also, based on things he’s said about Kanye in interviews and in his stand-up, this is about Kanye challenging traditional ideas of black masculinity — i.e., making it so that you don’t have to rap about crime or violence to find widespread success as a rapper; not seeing “hardness” as the most desirable personality trait. Also of interest: Donald Glover also has a bit about black nerds in his stand-up act, and the three people discussed are Pres. Obama, Kanye, and Donald himself.
