Nas takes refuge in alcohol to maintain himself mentally in a fog which is a well-known way to sweep issues under the carpet and postpone matching pain.
However this alcohol habit which ties with previously mentionned autistic withdrawal tendancy (“bottle over a friend” and third verse’s first bar) feed upon each other: he stays home because he doesn’t want to hide in public whereas being alone makes him more and more vulnerable to his alcohol management issue.
In the meantime he contrasts his grim thoughts asserting life is worth the living. High-level depression turned him bipolar.
