All I wanted to do is write rhymes
All I ever wanted to do is write rhymes
All I ever wanted to do is write rhymes
(Huh?) Is that a crime?
(What?) To write rhymes?

Meaning

Becoming an artist or a performer of some sort as a suburban white kid is frowned upon. Rap music among elder white folks is seen as grotesque, violent, and dangerous because they do not enjoy the style of music. Very much the same way their parents did not like Rock and Roll. Being an artist of this sort especially isn’t respected because all the white kids on the block are expected to grow up go to Harvard and become a doctor or a lawyer. You know… Do something respectable… “All I ever wanted to do was write rhymes, is that a crime?”
