Instead of war on poverty
They got a war on drugs so the police can bother me
The “War On Poverty” was the unofficial name for legislation first introduced by Lyndon Johnson in 1964; the national poverty rate was at about 19% at the time. His speech (which discusses the issue of race, as well) led the United States Congress to pass the Economic Opportunity Act, which established an office (the OEO) to administer the local application of federal funds targeted against poverty.
7 years later, when Nixon was in office, he coined the term, “War on Drugs”. Other presidents (i.e. Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush), along with other people in government, pushed for more involvement in this.
Overall, it reciprocates what Johnson was doing, as it discontinued helping the poor and started helping people who benefit most from drugs: the bankers who launder the money.
