Meaning

Nas is claiming that Jay’s adoption of the Jay-Z moniker is a pathetic attempt to imitate Jaz-O. After all, it’s pretty hard to get “Jay-Z” from “Shawn Carter,” Jay’s given name. (Jay-Z claims to have gotten his name from the subway lines he took to get to his home in Brooklyn, lines J and Z — although the suggestion by Nas is also valid)

Supposedly Jaz actually got in contact with Nas and provided most of the private info revealed in this song. Jaz and Jay had had their own falling-out around this time, which led to a few Jaz disses on Blueprint 2.
