Or of the press;
from James Madison (Ft. Thomas Jefferson) – The Bill Of Rights on Rap Genius
James Madison granted freedom of the press in response to the lack of press freedom ever given whilst under monarchical British rule. The King made clear that any press releases made against his rule would be met with swift and severe punishment. To ensure that the thoughts and views of each and every individual American would be respected in the public, freedom of the press was established. This means that the communication of views, ideas, etc., through various media and published sources will be respected and not cracked down upon. J-Mad may be a bit disappointed now, however, as this graphic from Reporters Without Borders shows the current state of freedom of the press around the world. As to no surprise, our neighbors to the north embarrass us.
