The United States of America were once prominent exponents of slavery. When the Declaration of Independence was adopted, slavery was still the norm. America would have to wait until December 6, 1865, before slavery would finally be abolished.
When the United States of America was founded, the Founding Fathers would not in their wildest dreams have imagined that a black man would be able to have such a prominent role in society, a role in which he can be seen as acting as the mouth piece for the former slaves, and a voice which both challenges authority and speaks to the black community.
