In the previous line, Lauryn sung about ‘possibly speak(ing) tongues.’ She wants her message to meet as many people as possible, and she wants to convert people to a new way of thinking, one in which prejudice cease to exist. John the Baptist heralded Jesus' coming and baptised Jesus. He was the original ‘street Baptist,’ baptizing many in the River Jordan. However, the life of the Baptist is one fraught with danger, as John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod Antipas as a result of his daughters birthday wish to have John the Baptist’s head on a platter. Although Herod was said to have been appalled by his daughter’s request, he perhaps needed little convincing, as animosity was building between Herod and John due to John’s disapproval of Herod’s divorce of his is wife Phasaelis.
