To my first love, I’m grateful for you. Grateful that even though it wasn’t what I hoped for and even though it was never enough, it was.
Frank’s first love was a complex and disappointing one. The man he was involved with had a female partner, one he would not let go of despite his feeling’s for Frank. Some first love’s are almost magical, Frank’s wasn’t. Frank’s first love was not the stuff of fantasy, but was a love with a man who refused to come to term with his feelings and emotions, who maintained a façade by keeping up his relationship with his girlfriend. This was obviously not the first love Frank had hoped for, but you only get one first love. He was Frank’s first love, and though “it was never enough”, it happened regardless — “it was.” It was far from an ideal situation, but Frank is grateful for what he gained from their relationship.
