Play the race card again
An idiom meaning to bring one’s race into an argument as a way of trumping all other points, usually as a means to escape the argument. It was famously attempted by O.J. Simpson’s lawyer team during his 1995 murder trial.
This is referring to white people inferring that black/non-white people are only successful by playing the ‘race card’. This is a way of keeping ‘people of colour’ down, as if because affirmative action wasn’t around to try and make up for a history of colonialism and slavery. Also note that ‘cardigan’ and ‘race card again’ are a play on words.
