As the mothership connects in CC, Chocolate City

from George Clinton (Ft. Busta Rhymes, Ol' Dirty Bastard & Q-Tip) – Flashlight (The GrooveMasters' Mix) Lyrics on Rap Genius

George Clinton’s group, Parliament, had an album called Chocolate City, which was a “tribute to Washington D.C.”, where the group had been particularly popular. Besides the album being called Chocolate City, the lead single is also called “Chocolate City.” The album’s cover includes images of the United States Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial in the form of a chocolate medallion, as well as sticker labeled “Washington DC”.

The mothership connects refers to the Parliament album Mothership Connection, on which the lead single is titled “Mothership Connection (Star Child).” The concept album of P Funk mythology is usually rated as one of Parliament’s best. Mothership Connection was the first P-funk album to feature Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, who had left The J.B.’s, James Brown’s backing band.
