King ring things, heems reply fly as
MLK famously demanded that the powers that be “let freedom ring” from all corners of the US, and Heems reply to that is akin to that of Apache chief Cochise, who gained infamy for attacking white settlers rather than accept the inevitability of European conquest. This is meant to contrast (and reject) the approach of MLK, who accepted the established dominance of Eurocentric culture, and aimed to achieve equality for those of different backgrounds within this established ethnic paradigm. This line is also a play on the fact that Heems is actually an Indian, while Cochise, and his people were, and are still mistakenly called Indians to this day.
