(Verse 1)
Uh
Used to read a lot
Then I turned to rap a lot

Then my parents bought a house
Decent size, average lot
Moved again

Made some friends
Wrote some rhymes
Got it in
Forgot about the books

Grades didn't matter
I wrote rhymes every day I didn't care about the grammEr
Didn't care about the fractions
Numbers
I would have them

Wrote rhymes all through classes
Making music for the masses

Believed in myself like Christians believe God
Found it hard to believe those who claimed that belief was hard

Friends turned into a team
Got a job
Made some cream

Bought a microphone
15

Started living a dream
This point in life was ecstasy
Beautiful woman next to me
Seemed like God was blessing me
Thought I was the next to be
The greatest

The papers, the teachers, the homework didn't matter
It was study or write all night
I always chose the latter

I always slept through class
I always barely passed

Then my girlfriend got with my best friend
Ecstasy crashed

That's when depression hit
I'm like forget this shit

Mark my words
I'm a be the best, forget that you exist
She's said she really doubts it

I'm like I'm really 'bout it
Told Marco, you ain't the crew my nigga
Get up out it

This starts another chapter
After
I abandoned the reading
Applied more pressure to my pen as if she left it bleeding

And grades kept declining
I just kept on rhyming

My parents kept dividing
I just kept on rhyming

And then Calvin died and
I just kept on rhyming

Now I'm in college
What the professor expects is rhyming
That's kind of funny ain't it?

And if my views are tainted
Remember I'm in school
But music comes first
And I still haven't made it

Feels like I shouldn't be writing a rhyme just to have it graded
This is truly art
Something from the heart

I love Hip-Hop
But that love of reading fell apart

And I just walk away

“Then the winter came. I got a second part time job, home was just a place to sleep. I felt like I could work since I had a goal. I only had one concern. God, does he exist?"
