One could only hope…

Check out the annotation to the album’s intro here.

It should be noted that whoever wrote this song wrote it in the first=person perspective of a woman, so even though Frank sang this song it will be annotated from the perspective of the character.

Donald’s having an existential crisis, but if you don’t wanna go that deep, just remember that everyone has one of these moments.

Is anything I’ve done worth anything at all? What if I’m here for no reason at all?

Donald’s saying he didn’t leave Community to rap; he left because the deaths of (presumably) close friends (or family) have overwhelmed him and have left him feeling sick. He needed to be on his own (i.e. away from the cast, crew, cameras) to collect his thoughts and process what’s been going on.

It’s been a tough year for Childish Gambino.

This is probably the most relatable sentiment in the entire letter. Everyone’s into some weird shit.

lyrics are up too. I originally intended for this to be an intro to a mixtape but I don’t think it’ll fit the vibe so I released this for feedback.

Ever since the advent of this album, many rappers have also shared SkiBs' sentiment. He wants to be heard, but not feared; he just wants to share what he has to say with as many people as he can, including all the presidents of the United States, dead or alive.

Lots of people say they’re rappers, when in reality its nothing but wishful thinking. SkiBs on the other hand is the real deal, and he knows he’ll make it in the game because everyone else is just frontin'.

Manny Pacquiao is a notable professional boxer. SkiBs comparing his lyrical ability to ‘throw down’ (i.e. spit freestyles or spit in general) to the fighting prowess of the boxer.

"How can there be peace / How can I be in the depths of so..." (2Pac – In the Depths of Solitude: Dedicated 2 Me) | pending

He also writes I as ‘eye’ in the poem.. could be trying to say he has two ‘eyes’ inside of him. This give arise to conflicting personalities (‘I’s) but it helps him see clearer and better than if he only had one 'eye’.

Perhaps the palms held together refers to praying as well, and how having the reassurance of an intangible entity is not the same as having the solid, physical reassurance of a partner.

"I just get the information retweet it or say it sucks" (Childish Gambino – Life: the biggest troll [andrew auernheimer]) | accepted

This also refers to his character on the BTI script. ‘The Boy’ is a ‘professional’ troller, retweeting interesting tweets and attacking celebrities over Twitter.

This might’ve been what he was referring to when he said slap boxing. Em and his crazy references.

Not so much accept as much as realising a mistake and understanding its consequences imo

"Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly / How could she d..." (The Beatles – She's Leaving Home) | pending

It also reflects the heartlessness of many teenagers then and now, who take their parents for granted and ignore how hard it is to raise a child.

"No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or l..." (The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever) | accepted

To quote Lennon himself:

I was different all my life. The second verse goes, ‘No one I think is in my tree.’ Well, I was too shy and self-doubting. Nobody seems to be as hip as me is what I was saying. Therefore, I must be crazy or a genius — ‘I mean it must be high or low,’ the next line. There was something wrong with me, I thought, because I seemed to see things other people didn’t see

"My trigger finger itching, all I kill is time" (Mac Miller – I Am Who Am (Killin' Time)) | accepted

Even though he has a ‘twisted mind’, he’s still unwilling to act out his urges and impulses. His trigger finger is twitching because he’s still unsure whether he has what it takes to kill, and he’s wasting (killing) time as he contemplates how misogynistic he really is.

DeStorm found A recipe, so he found one of the many ways to make life good and pleasant.

"And its not gonna be me" (Skylar Grey – Final Warning) | rejected

it could also be her trying to convince herself that she’s not going to be the one heartbroken in this relationship. on the surface, this line might seem like manic bravado but it could really be some much-needed self-assurance.
