About

Genius Annotation

This song is about trying to get over a former lover to no avail. Fiona Apple wonders throughout the song whether her constant returning to this toxic relationship is a result of insanity or just real love (she hopes it’s the latter).

The lyrics are rather dark (e.g. “I might be so sick in the head I need to be bled dry to quit”), and especially moving in juxtaposition with the upbeat, almost cheerful melody.
