A lot of Youth Lagoon’s music is about small meaningful memories which have played a large part (emotionally) in Trevor Power’s life, simple things like watching fireworks explode from a rooftop.

This explanation hasn't yet been reviewed by the Rap Genius editors
(I made the original explanation when this track dropped; here’s the revision)
So here’s how it went down: On July 23rd, the track Between Friends (prod. Flylo, feat. Earl and the Cap'n) dropped. It was the 6th song released in the annual Adult Swim Singles Program series (http://video.adultswim.com/promotions/201206_singles/). Flying Lotus is usually a staple for these,
He produced bump music for Adult Swim and was sort of an insider (in the 2010 series he produced a track for Killer Mike) so nothing was thought of as unusual when it was announced when he would be releasing a track.
At roughly the 1:25 mark, the internet receives its first taste of the enigmatic
Captain Murphy, with the line
So unorthodox, chillin with a shaman eating ramen in a parking lot
and as the saga unfolded, this line was completely true; up to the point of his identity being discovered,
Captain Murphy was INCREDIBLY unorthodox.
Within hours, forums exploded with speculation (I think there were five simultaneous threads at one point on
Rap Genius) trying to figure out who Captain Murphy was. The earliest speculations were Tyler,
Earl, FlyLo himself, or perhaps a combination of the three. Each theory was dealt with its evidence,
and argued against with equally good evidence. Even Zeroh, MF Doom, Greydon square, the entire Odd Future collective and others were thought to potentially be this masked MC.
Fast forward four months and five tracks later to Monday, the 24th of November; after a lengthy debate with himself on his twitter, Captain Murphy decides to have a concert at The Airliner in LA. At this point, several
clues have been dropped as to who he is. The Airliner is a frequented spot for Brainfeeder artists'
concerts, he rapped on top of TNGHT’s Bugg'n who (you know who) has pretty close ties with,
Jeremiah Jae and Azizi Gibson were both featured on tracks of his (both Brainfeeder guys), and whoever he was had very close ties with adult swim (the sampling, his name) but the internet was still anxious to learn of his identity.
Four days later, the night of the concert has come. According to eyewitnesses, the line stretched
for blocks to get into the Airliner. One hour or so into the show, the Cap'n removes
his golden fleeced hood to reveal that he is….

…FlyLo. So after four months of redundant forum posts, a cryptic twitter feed https://twitter.com/xCaptainMurphyx a bootlegged shirt on tosh.o, an attempted
trolling by Rejjie Snow and several heads pounding against their keyboards in frustration, and some really psychedelic videos, the mystery finally came to an end. It was quite an achievement, too. In
this internet age when we can learn tons about artists with a few clicks, not many MCs would be able to keep a secret identity for so long and keep the public so entranced and curious while doing so.
Well played, sir. Well played indeed.
@flyinglotus- the only tweet after the concert:
HahAhHAHaaha
Tyler says this at the end of his verse in the Radical mixtape closer “Swag Me Out”
Note that until the human voices arrive, there are no electric instruments being used. Just natural acoustic ones. The humans settled on the once perfect island, bringing on the age of mechanization.
Also a timely precursor to Trayvon Martin’s shooting
