This whole song is Amy personifying her favorite Guitar, Cherry, and comparing it to her man.

The first verse gives Cherry a name and a gender ad suggests Amy has an instant connection to her. In comparison to her boyfriend, who hasn’t connected with her in 18 years.

In the final chapters of Revelations, a New Heaven and a New Earth are created after God has dealt with the Old World and it’s sinful, immoral inhabitants.

Essentially, the Hero discussed in this song, who is ambiguous, would only be prolonging the inevitable, showing a sign of sympathy and understanding for the people too afraid to stand up for the world on Marvin’s part.

Marvin paints a picture of what some would consider an almost pre-apocalyptic world, where singing and nature aren’t allowed by some form of authority.

Marvin painted this picture to warn people that this was where Humanity was heading if they stood by acts of War and injustice.

He holds onto the belief that she is solely sleeping with him when, in fact, she’s not really that into him.

The use of the verb ‘clinging’, suggests she sees him as needy and desperate. This conveys his need for emotional attachment, something which she doesn’t want or need from him.

Amy says that she should know the ropes by now, as this always happens, she can’t be in a relationship for too long, whether it’s her decision or a man’s.

So, as supposedly she’s tried to change her ways for this man, Amy says she should dust off her heels and get back out on the town.

A cougar, may still be out on the town trying to sleep around. A majority of people would see this as immature or pathetic because, really, you should have a stable job and/or a stable relationship by the time you’re in your mid-thirties.

Also, as the woman has grown up, it is clear that her methods of hooking up aren’t up to date.

Much like this man, a lot of the men who pick up women and have one-night stands are unfaithful husbands who’s marriages may be failing (they’ll probably take off their ring to trick you):

Amy says the woman and those similar to her are necessary for this man, too.

This woman is the embodiment of night life, the drugs, the sex, the partying and the hangovers are all major parts of her lifestyle.

Amy says that this woman and others like her are necessary for nightlife to be fun, as there’s always one person who ends up like this outside a club:

She met somebody when she was out and ended up getting ‘caned’, which is British slang, used as a word for being ‘high’ or ‘drunk’.

Much like being smashed, or shit-faced, the woman is so drunk that she’s incoherent.

She’s missed the plane back to the UK, and is, essentially, stuck in Miami. Let’s not forget that she has no money or husband to help her out.

She’s pretty much lost in a foreign place.

"So long, so long, so long" (Kanye West – New Slaves) | accepted
"Runnin this rap shit," (Joey BADA$$ – Beyond A Reasonable Doubt) | accepted

Also a reference to Takeover, which starts with the line

R.O.C we runnin this rap shit

To fit with the Jay-Z theme

"Dethrone 'em from higher powers cause no clique is high a..." (Joey BADA$$ – Beyond A Reasonable Doubt) | accepted

Due to the title of the song, it’s obvious to see the Jay-Z references, “dethroning” is an allusion to Watch The Throne and he even mentions Clique, in which the chorus

Ain’t nobody fucking with my clique

Is used to put their clique above others. Here, Joey paraphrases this by saying

No Clique is as high as ours.

"Change the voices in your head make them like you instead" (Pink – Fuckin' Perfect) | accepted

The girl/outcasts need to stop their negative thought process and to have a more positive outlook on life. To do this, people have to change their negative thought process into a positive one. They should love themselves, despite any rejection they face in every day life.

She’s telling every girl who feels like an outcast (or any person for that matter), to be confident about themselves instead of talking down about themselves just because popular people in school and society make them feel that way. Basically, she’s saying that they aren’t all the negative things people say she/they are.

"As the daylight fell" (Frank Ocean – American Wedding) | rejected

This is actually a pathetic fallacy, where Frank uses the weather to convey the downfall in their relationship.

"All I see is these new buildings / But single mothers sti..." (Trinidad James – Givin No Fucks) | accepted

He does say bills, and it can be interpreted in two ways.

  1. He sees bills being passed by Government, but they don’t actually help with the economical issues typically faced in the hood. In this instance, the bills don’t make life any easier for the struggling single mother left to raise a kid all by herself.

  2. He’s seeing money, but isn’t satisfied because there are people still struggling to live in the hood.

"Sinatra lifestyle, I'm just being frank with you" (Drake – 5AM in Toronto) | rejected

This is a stretch, but the meaning of “frank” in that sentence (usually), means being honest. And we all know how honest Frank Ocean is…..

Just to add to the possible Frank reference in this song.

"Who painted white lights on a canvas" (Frank Ocean – Eyes Like Sky) | pending

This could refer to how the blind man sees people’s auras, and actually implies he sees the outline of everything. So, He can draw white lights on a canvas (which is traditionally white) and nobody else will see it. This could misinterpreted as slightly insane, but artists always seem to differ from social norms.

"Sinatra lifestyle, I'm just being frank with you" (Drake – 5AM in Toronto) | rejected

It also sounds “it’s a natural lifestyle” which could be an allusion to ‘Nature Feels’ by Frank Ocean.
