Letter Home Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Love and hate, two of the same things
That's the feeling from my city that will never change

But it's all good; cause I don't say that shit in vein
Honored to be where I am, away from the pain

Have I gone insane? Now that I'm in the game?
The coach told me I'mma start on the bench again
So I'mma sixth man, glamour and glistening

Had to wrap this session up cause I know I'm gifted
Yeah, and I've seen better days
This is light work
My flow is some featherweight
Honestly I changed the game I made it hard to concentrate
Success in this is what I want cause I don't really need the fame
And that's word to my brothers, all my people riding, and all who's undercover
Things ain't what they seem, I'm onto better things
Would've been back, but I'm too busy chasing dreams

[Hook](x2)
You were the realest that I've met
I got this letter can you please read this?

Hold back your heart cause I don't wanna feel shit
Said I'm coming home, you'll be happy to see it

[Verse 2]
Yeah, they read you like an article
And ever since I've gotten big they all want a part of you

It's funny how they used to say, "this shit would be hard to do"
Listening to others and never what your heart would do

And now I'm so high I ask why the sky is blue
Why do I have haters? Do I ever spend time with you?
See this ain't fake shit, these the things I'm going through
Let's keep it real, find a place, just me and you

And judging by the fact that you know how to act
I think it's crazy when you thought I couldn't handle that

Where them phantoms at? Where them hammers at?
A lot of fakes up in my city, where them cameras at?

Yeah, but I love this place with all my heart
This is where it started, this where I made my mark
Tryna save the game cause it's feeling like a lost art
Screaming 717, until we fall apart

About

Genius Annotation

14th track off of M.Wade’s Going The Distance. This song is set apart from the others because M.Wade talks about how he would approach coming home after he made it and left his beloved city. What’s make this song even that much more interesting, is that it’s written from a mainstream perspective, as if he’s coming home as an already “big time” deal. This really is an amazing piece of work and it literally paints a picture of the vibe he gets from his city.
