OTL 46: Ron Isley Excerpt #1 - Clara Ward Lyrics

SameOldShawn: I know that, when you were starting out singing with your brothers, a lot of the gospel groups like the Dixie Hummingbirds and Billy Ward and stuff like that were some of your first influences. Which gospel singers in particular really knocked you out when you were growing up?

Ron Isley: Growing up, Clara Ward. We patterned ourselves after her group. My mother...I was a little guy, so my mother taught me all the songs, I had all the records, and we did our show

We put together a show -- "How I Got Over," "Surely God Is Able," all those songs, you know? And we had a dynamite show

How to Format Lyrics:

  • Lyrics should be broken down into individual lines
  • Use section headers above different song parts like [Verse], [Chorus], etc.
  • Use italics (<i>lyric</i>) and bold (<b>lyric</b>) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song part
  • If you don’t understand a lyric, use [?]
