Genius Annotation

“Between Angels and Insects,” which had the working title “Obsession,” is about just that: the obsession with material things. As this song has come to define Papa Roach’s sound, it isn’t surprising that it involves Rap, Rock, and Metal influences. Instrumentation of heavy distorted guitar, a driving bass-line and drum beat combines effortlessly with rapping, singing, and screaming vocals to form a cohesive whole.

The name is taken from the 1995 movie/1994 book “Angels & Insects”; A. S. Byatt, the initial author of the book helped Philip and Belinda Haas with writing the screenplay. This is a fucked up thing to reference, even in the context of this song.

It is the third single from Californian rock band Papa Roach’s first major label album, Infest. It is also one of the bands most well known songs; they still play it in every concert they play to this day; from Infest, only “Last Resort” shares that distinction.
