I think both of these interpretations work…but i always thought he said “god bless the man i put this ice over” as if he shot and killed someone for his chain(whether they tried to rob him of it or he robbed them for it) which plays on the previous line shed a tear before the nights over because of guilt.

I wonderd yesterday if lupe was a fan of coldplay becuzz of the spy reference…the beat for go to sleep i think is remniscent of the somber tones coldplay uses…i never realized the religious references tho…
