In this song I open up about a lot of personal things I’m going through. I want so much out of life, a lot more than a 9 to 5 can ever get me.

In this line I’m foreshadowing about a deadline I gave myself to be where I want to be financially.

Because I’m not where I want to be yet I’m a little uptight, and stressed out, I can admit that. I missed out on a lot of opportunities due to funding but a year from now it won’t even matter.

Its no secret that I drink a lot more than I should sometimes so you gotta ignore me if I’ve been drinking.

At the same time when I drink I come up with some of my best material, lyrically.

There is no way to say this without sounding conceited or cocky but there hasn’t been one beat I rapped on that I haven’t destroyed.

One of my homies told me it should be illegal to be this good.

One of the main reasons I rap is to inspire and educate in any way I can; with my story, and storytelling ability.

I want to influence music and culture the same way people like Barack Obama influenced culture and made us as a people know that you can really whatever you want to be, even the president of the United States.

Tupac has a song where he says “I wonder if Heaven got a Ghetto?”

That’s still a mystery to me because I’m still alive but nevertheless its a circumstantial metaphor about my financial situation — being poor.

Even right now if I died and went to heaven I’m so poor I still would have to be on Section 8 because I can’t afford to live there.

My grandfather had throat cancer and before he passed away he made me promise him that I would finish school, and that along with countless other things motivated me to stay focused and graduate.

On “First Degree Murder” I did a lot of foreshadowing about my future in this industry and the doors that music is going to open for me.

In the line “I see the future like Cleo nigga call me now” I’m referencing the fortune teller “Ms. Cleo” who is known for her psychic powers.

In the line “It’s just me and my dog nigga Charlie Brown
Straight jacket in the booth ima hold it down” I’m referencing the cartoon “Charlie Brown”, every time you saw him it was him and his dog “Snoopy”.

And my circle is very small, I don’t have a lot of friends, every time you see you see me its me and my dawg (friend) — Stephon.

I got a lot of people counting on me. I made a lot of promises and I plan on keeping every one of them.

I’m from the Westside of Chicago and in general Chicago has been notorious for its violence and has been deemed the murder capital of the world almost every year that I’ve existed. So, its very common to cut on the news and hear about a shooting or a murder. For that reason alone I don’t even watch the news anymore, I have become desensitized to all the violence around me. Music is my outlet, its my scapegoat, and writing and recording music is the only thing that keeps me sane and allows me to really express my emotions about everything that’s going on around me. And Cruz (my friend and engineer) has been a blessing to me in my music career so far allowing me to come use his recording facility to make my music a reality.

I recently graduated from college and like most college students I’m in plenty of debt; thanks to Sallie Mae (student loan lender). Bill collectors have already begun to call trying to set up payment arrangements and payment options for all the student loans I accumulated during college.

They been calling so much that my BM (baby mama) thinks its another women (i.e. Sallie Mae) because I never answer the phone.

This metaphor allows me to express what I’m currently going through as bill collectors begin to harass me about this 70+ thousand dollars that I have in student loans.

I hate arguments, probably because I never can think of the right things to say in an argument.

So, in this verse I’m just expressing myself, getting a lot of things off my chest about a previous relationship and some differences we had prior to calling it quits.
