Homey Don’t Play! is the first of two EP recordings Esham made in 1990 under his Reel Life Productions record label. The catalog number is RLP1002.
On the cassette tape version Side A and Side B are titled “Coke” and “Cane”, respectively.
The title of this record is influenced by Homey D. Clown, a character played by Damon Wayans on the popular 1990s sketch comedy show In Living Color. His catch phrase was “Homey don’t play that!”
Esham’s later brought back his Homey alter ego for the albums I Ain’t Cha Homey and Secret Society Circus, released in 2009 and 2011.
