About “1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours”

1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is a collection of early Green Day recordings released by Lookout! Records in 1991. The compilation combines Green Day’s debut album, 39/Smooth, and their first two EP’s, 1,000 Hours and Slappy. A cover of “Knowledge” by the influential Californian punk band Operation Ivy is also included – Operation Ivy vocalist, Jesse Michaels, is credited for creating the album’s artwork.

The album was the last to feature original drummer John Kiffmeyer (aka Al Sobrante) before his departure shortly after the band’s first nationwide tour in 1990.
