Kesha’s debut album, Animal, cemented her status as a fun, influential popstar. The record, which tackles topics such as budding romance, sex, and partying, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Kesha told Seventeen in 2010 that she spent seven years curating the record, and chose the tracklist out of over 200 songs. Some of the remaining songs, including “Baby, It’s You,” have since been leaked online.
Animal, the name of the record, it’s kind of my steez, I have to say. I named it that because I want people to lose it when they listen to my record and go to the animal part of themselves that they suppress. Society has taught us to suppress certain things and not do certain things.

The whole thing as a package I’ve been working on for seven years, and I’ve written every song on the record — and I’ve written over 200 so it’s the best of the best. Literally, there were so many songs that they had to extend it from 12 to 14 songs.
