Blue Slide Park

Mac Miller

About “Blue Slide Park”

Blue Slide Park is the debut studio album by Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller, released on November 8, 2011, by Rostrum Records. The album is named after a section of Frick Park, in Pittsburgh. It debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, selling 145,000 on its first week, making it the first independently-distributed debut album to top the chart since Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food (1995).

Upon its release, the album received generally mixed reviews. Pitchfork gave it 1/10, criticizing the LP for its lack of appeal. Furthermore, the reviews and the bad reception of the album by both critics and fans not only inspired him to change his style in later works, but led Miller to drug abuse, especially codeine.

Mac vanished from the spotlight to make a comeback in 2012, with the mixtape Macadelic, on which he experimented with an introspective, dark and psychedelic style, indicating both lyrical and musical growth.
