Kaleidoscope Dream

Miguel

About “Kaleidoscope Dream”

Kaleidoscope Dream is the second studio album by American R&B recording artist Miguel, released on September 25, 2012, by RCA Records.

His debut album, All I Want Is You, was released after a two-year delay on Jive Records. The album sold quite poorly due to under-promotion from Jive. After the label was shut down and absorbed by RCA, a new opportunity was given to re-establish himself as an artist.

With his second album, Miguel took on much larger involvement in the album’s writing and production, drawing inspiration from a variety of different musical styles, including R&B, pop, funk, rock, soul electronic and psychedelic music. In explaining the title of his work, he mentioned:

[Kaleidoscope Dream] is a metaphor for our life; everyone has their own “kaleidoscope dream”, it is the life that they project and it is the life that they are solidifying with their conscious decision and their subconscious feelings."

Upon release, Kaleidoscope Dream received critical acclaim for its creativity, songwriting, production, Miguel’s performance and the varied musical styles. It was placed on multiple Year-End lists of the best albums of 2012. It was also a commercial success, Debuting at #3 on the Billboard album chart, selling 71,000 copies in its first week, and being certified Gold by the RIAA.

The album has three singles: The lead off single Adorn, Do You and How Many Drinks?, which was remixed by American rapper Kendrick Lamar.
