About “The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond”

The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond is the official companion album for the 2012 film The Hunger Games. It was released March 20, 2012, three days before the cinematic release of the movie.

The companion album, unlike the score composed by James Newton Howard, consists of songs inspired by the story. Only “Safe & Sound” by Taylor Swift featuring The Civil Wars, “Abraham’s Daughter” by Arcade Fire and “Kingdom Come” The Civil Wars were used in the film, all for the duration of the ending credits. “Safe and Sound” was released as a promotional single for the soundtrack.

The album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, and has also charted in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and Ireland.
