Total Control

Yo-Yo

About “Total Control”

Yo-Yo’s fourth album Total Control was released October 29, 1996. It was primed for pop-rap crossover success with modernized G-funk and slick production by DJ Battlecat. The album featured hooky singles like “Same Ol' Thang (Everyday),” “Steady Risin',” and the girls-night-out MC Lyte collaboration “One for the Cuties,”.

However, Total Control only reached #46 on the R&B charts. A duet with Ice Cube titled “Bonnie & Clyde II” managed to reach #37 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart as well. This was Yo-Yo’s last commercial release for EastWest Records, as her 1998 follow-up album Ebony got shelved by the label.
